Event #5: $440 WPTDeepStacks Big Bounty

[ One-Day Event: Wednesday, May 26, 4:30 PM ]

Dave Beckhaus loves poker - in fact he runs the Perth Poker League out west and has sent 5 winners to WPTDeepStacks Gold Coast who have come with a bigger group of around 15 from Perth for the Series.

Last night though he had the pleasure of becoming player and taking down the biggest single start side event by player number in the history of poker at The Star Gold Coast, outlasting 401 other entries and collecting 13.5 bounties on route to his victory. Let's hand it over to Anthony Fantini from the Star Gold Coast for his take on the event:

"With the full Blood Moon high in the sky and a lunar eclipse, it provided a perfect backdrop for our WPT Deepstack Event 5 – The $440 Big Bounty here at The Star Gold Coast.

A massive 402 entrants all eager to add as many bounties as they could on their way to claiming their share of the $160,800 prize pool.

The sound of shuffling chips filled our Poker Room, as play continued through the afternoon and into the early morning, finishing up at 05.30am.

With plenty of bounties between them, our final table was set , with a healthy mix of local and interstate talent from Sydney, Melbourne, Western Australia and of course Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

5 final 9

Well known Australian Poker identity Ken Demlakian found himself on yet another final table, however tonight he was the hunted, as David Beckhaus claimed his “bounty” by eliminating Ken (pocket 8s) with his Ace King off suit, and David hitting an ace on the river .

This seemed to be the turning point for David as he channelled his inner “hunter” ability and proceeded to be chip leader for the majority of the final table.

There were some epic battles between our final 3 with Brisbane young gun Suraj Kara, Melbourne’s Mina Gerges and the pride of Western Australia David Beckhaus.

Beckhaus eventually eliminating Kara to set up a head to head duel with Gerges . Play went to and fro, and with the sun on the horizon, David pushed all in with K Q against Mina Gerges hand of 8♦ 7. The flop revealing K Q♦ Q a turn showing a J  and a 4 on the river and another 2021 WPT Deepstacks Champion was crowned with David Beckhaus (WA) claiming his first WPT trophy and $16,522 with Mina Gerges taking $11,574 for runner up."
