Local Legend Karsten Kobbing wins last event of WPTDeepStacks Gold Coast

By WPT.asia

The Star Gold Coast’s own local poker player, Karsten Kobbing was the last man standing in our last feature event of the WPTDeepStacks Series – The Mega Stack Freezeout Tournament.
298 poker enthusiasts had one last chance at final glory and redemption for some bad beats and bad luck and a desire to hold aloft the last trophy on offer for the 11 day Poker extravaganza here at The Star Gold Coast.
After nearly 8 hours of some great poker action, we had our final table, consisting of our own Nives Ceccato and Karsten Kobbing. Add in an element of Kiwi magic, and some interstate pride to provide some electric moments, this final table would prove lifechanging for one player
It wasn’t long after the break, that we lost 2 players in quick succession, and unfortunately for Nives, her tournament ended in 7th spot walking away with $3,968. Well Done Nives!
Play continued through until the shade of midnight, when our final 2 players went heads up Troy Mclean and local Karsten Kobbing.
A monster of a hand unfolded to determine our eventual winner, when Karsten went all in with K♦9♣ and after some deliberation, Troy called with Q♥8♦. The flop reveals K♥4♠7♣. The turn showing a 6♣, and then the river showing a 6♠, and Karsten being crowned the WPTDeepStacks Mega Stack Freezeout Winner for 2021 and taking home a whopping $26,103! Runner up Troy Mclean didn’t leave empty handed and added $18,312 to his bank balance.
A fitting way for WPTDeepStacks to conclude here at The Star Gold Coast, and shows just how much Poker has grown here in the last 5 years.
Thank you to all our players (and entourages) for making The Star Gold Coast your home of poker for the last 10 days, and look forward to seeing you all in the near future.
