Forged in gold: Mario Faure wins the $660 Big Bounty

By WPT.asia

It’s been over two years since Melbournian grinder Mario Faure last tasted tournament poker, but it seems he hasn’t lost any of his resolve, striking time and time again to drive his victory home and claim one of the beautiful WPTDeepStacks Sydney trophies, along with $29,202 in prize money.

Faure was clearly ecstatic with the victory, saying he was “over the moon” and “dancing on air” after the final card hit the table.

Mario bested a field of 565 players, including Ehsan Amiri, Ali Ghezelbash, Chad Awerbuch, and Jai Duffy in what was an action packed day of poker. The Big Bounty format always promises action and today was certainly no exception.

Glenn Marsom siezed the chiplead just before the final table and never let it go until the dying moments, losing two key flips in quick succession to Faure. The two reached a deal heads up that saw Marsom take home $26,000 for his second place finish.

Speaking to PokerMedia Australia after the victory photos, Faure said he was “card dead for most of the day, but I got some really lucky spots right at the end there – and I’d rather be lucky than good!”

Mario and his travelling group from Melbourne were all smiles as they celebrated the momentous occasion, speaking to PMA as one. Tom Karadimos reckoned “We haven’t eaten for two days! We were going to get a nice steak tonight [after the tournament], but we didn’t think Mario would actually win it!”

“It was really just a trip to play some poker, seeing as we don’t really get the chance in Melbourne with the current situation. What was a trip for just a bit of fun has definitely been some good fun,” Faure laughed, “I really enjoyed today!”
